FAQs

Songs/Soundtrack Albums

Q: Okay, say I want a lot of pop music in the soundtrack, and maybe a soundtrack album. What's the deal?

A: Not a problem. We can provide full music supervision including contracts and album negotiation. Our music supervisors have worked on many top films and successful soundtrack albums.

Q: How do I obtain the synch rights to a song?

A: Song rights (film synchronization licenses) are a very tricky area--George Lucas didn't know he had to pay for the songs in "American Graffiti." The resultant chaos (not to mention the millions he had to pay) almost cost the film's release. There are many alternative approaches for the indie filmmaker: Soundalike, unsigned bands, direct access to the artist (who may be charmed by your film and help out.) The hidden caveats in dealing with non-established artists are many: who really owns the writing and publishing of a given song, who played on the recording and are they all signed to the agreement in question, who represents the different parties legally and will that change unexpectedly. We'll work with you through this quagmire to get your needs met.

Q: That'll cost me, right?

A: Not for any of the early consulting and discussions, no. Once a direction is decided upon, music supervision fees will be negotiated for the job at hand. You're not obligated in any way before then.
